TOURIST INFORMATION
Nottingham is best-known as the
home of Robin Hood, that notoriously generous political activist
of the early Middle Ages who robbed from the rich to give to the
poor. But Robin was not the only Nottingham radical to become
world-famous. The Luddite machine-breakers also came from the
same region, as did the poet Byron and the novelist D.H. Lawrence.
Mathematician Ada Lovelace, Byron's daughter and advisor to William
Babbage in the construction of the Difference Engine, lived in
neighbouring Leicestershire, and another famous mathematician,
George Green, worked as a miller in Sneinton.
The city has a thriving night-life with many cinemas, pubs, clubs
and cafe-bars, as well as a good selection of shops including two
city-centre malls.
