Sue Rea was born in Leicestershire in 1944. She spent four years in RAF Music Services in the 1960s before returning to her roots and raising a family.

Returning to education in 1991, she gained a BA honours degree at the Nottingham Trent University in 1995. She works at Loughborough College.
