Next
Place Competition
Writing competition run by Nottingham City Council in conjunction
with Nottingham Castle Museum - closing date 10 August. Entrants
need to visit the remarkable "Next Place" exhibition
at the Castle and write a short piece (max 500 words) or a poem
(max 30 lines) inspired by a specific exhibit or by the whole
exhibition. The exhibition includes the colourful Ghanaian fantasy
coffins by Paa Joe, and a visit is highly recommended. Inspiration
guaranteed! Various prizes including free tickets to various attractions/theatres
etc. Winning work will be displayed within the exhibition. Three
age categories ; up to 13; 14-17; 18+. Entries to Exhibitions,
Nottingham Castle, Nottingham NG1 6EL with your name, age, address

Newark
Poetry Society Poetry Competition
Adjudicator Clive Allen. Prizes total £175.00. Entrants
must be 16+. Unpublished poems up to 40 lines not bearing poet's
name and accompanied by a separate sheet listing name, address,
tel and title(s) of poems to be sent to Claire Sauer, 131 Rowan
Way, New Balderton, Newark, NG24 3BJ. £3.00 per poem payable
to Newark Poetry Society. Public Adjudication and Prize-giving.
Closing Date: 31 October 2001.
Nottingham
Open Poetry Competition
Adjudicator Merryn Williams. Prizes total £525.00 and publication.
Entrants must be 16+. Unpublished poems up to 40 lines not bearing
poet's name and accompanied by a separate sheet listing name,

Lexikon
Publishing School Memories Poetry Competition
A competition for poets aged sixteen and over with cash prizes
ranging from £100, £50 and £25. The competition
organisers are looking for a collection of school memories be
they sad, funny or obscure. Max length per poem 40 lines. Entry
fee is £1 per poem or £5 for 10 poems. Closing date
