The list is intended as a guide to current competitions only. Competitors must write independently to each competition, enclosing an SAE for an entry form before submitting any work.
Orange Prize for Screenwriting
Following the phenomenal success of last year’s prize, there’s another opportunity for budding screenwriters to see their work on the big screen. All you have to do is write a feature length script. The three winning scripts will then be developed by Pathe Pictures and one will go on to be produced as a full length feature. Write On Competition
Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Service and BBC Radio Northampton are running "Write On" a writing contest for the millennium. Contestants are asked for a short story of no more than 1,000 words. Five winners will have their stories read on BBC Radio Northampton with tapes of the winning stories available in libraries. Winners announced 21 January 2000.
Staple Open Poetry Competition
Previously unpublished poems of up to 40 lines. Prizes totalling £1,200. Entry fee is £2.50 per poem with half price entry for Staple Magazine subscribers. Sole judge is Catherine Byron.
