REGULAR REGIONAL MEETINGS/COURSES

Chameleon Writers' Workshop Meets on the first Tuesday of every month, 10am to 12 noon, at Junction 7, 3-7 Hazelwood Road, Northampton NN1 1LG. Further information from Zorina Ishmael-Bibby, tel 01604 721818.

Corby Writers Group Meets on the first Wednesday of every month, 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm at Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre. Meetings are non-smoking, wheelchair accessible and free. For further information contact Corby Community Arts (tel: 01536 460555) or just turn up on the night.

Derby Poetry Society - For everyone who enjoys reading, writing and talking about poems in a friendly, informal atmosphere. Meetings take place on second Fridays in most months in Room 4, The Friends' Meeting House, St Helen's Street, Derby. For further details telephone: 01332 553430.

Eastwood Writers Group Meets every Tuesday afternoon 1.30 - 3.30 at Eastwood Library, Wellington Place, Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Nottingham. All interests are included and new attendees are assured a warm welcome. Details from Eastwood Library or call the secretary on 01773 714558.

Erewash Writers Group The following events are planned for 2001: Saturday 15 September 2001 - talk (Gervaise Phinn) venue and times to be arranged; Saturday 29 September 2001 - talk (Stephen Booth) venue and times to be arranged. Federation of Children's Book Groups in Leicester meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at Browsers Bookshop, 26 Allandale Road, Leicester from 7.30-9.00pm. Anyone interested in children's books: parents, teachers, writers, librarian, or just lovers of children's literature, are all very welcome to join us. Grantham Writers meet on the third Monday of each month at the Shirley Croft Hotel at 7.30 pm. Also holds manuscript evenings and gives entertainment. For further details, phone the programme secretary on 01476 564360.

Market Harborough Young Writers' Group A gourp for young writers in Market Harborough. It is the brainchild of local author Steve Bowkett and Scribbles, the town's adult writers' group which has been in existence for 15 years. The group is open to all young people between the ages of 13-19 who are interested in writing creative fiction and poetry. The group will meet at Pen Lloyd Library, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough between 6 and 8 pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Library staff and Steve Bowkett/a member of Scribbles will be present throughout. Melton Writers' Group All types of writers at all levels of experience. Fortnightly morning and evening meetings where we exchange information and feedback on new work. Milton's Head Poets If you like hearing poems, writing poems or reading and performing poems, then Milton's Poets gives you the chance to do all that. A very informal group which meets on the first Monday of the month at The Milton's Head, Spring Gardens, Buxton, Derbyshire. Free. Most (but not all) write and bring poems to read that may or may not be related to the month's theme. No pressure to read and there is no formal critique of the poems. Occasional 'slams', also visiting poets and performers. Great for beginners and experienced performers alike. Encouraging local writers to share their work is what the group is all about. Phoenix Writers meet every second Friday to participate in a creative writing workshop and discuss literature issues. 7:30 pm in the English Dept, Bishop Grosteste College, Newport, Lincoln. All welcomed. Free admittance. Further information phone Chris Barrett, 01522 751376.

Pink Ink is a Nottingham based group for gay men and lesbians who share an interest in creative writing. Every member's work is respected and welcome. Some members are beginners, amateurs writing for fun or at best some all too occasional pocket money. Others are professionals - more or less - with published novels, short stories or poetry. Writing can be controversial, so complete confidentiality is the rule.

They meet monthly, usually every third Monday at a pub venue in Hockley, Nottingham. Meetings begin at 8pm but newcomers may like to come along early to make a few gentle introductions. They take turns to present something on the spot, but you may sit back and listen if you prefer. They also look at approaches to writing, style, technique, how to get published etc. Call 0115 9106926 for more information.

Poetry Lincs meets on the first Monday evening each month: workshops, organise readings. 7:30 pm at Trayer's Bookshop, The Glory Hole, Lincoln. All welcomed. Free admittance. Further information phone Joe Warner, 01652 680236.

Rosehill Club Poetry Workshop - Meets every other Friday from 2pm to 4pm, at the Rosehill Club, 127-129, Clarence Road, Derby. All welcome. South Derbyshire Writers' Group Any type of writing, everyone welcome, new to writing or experienced. Every Monday 7.30 - 9.30 in Chrysanthemum Court Community Room, Newhall, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. For details ring Monica on 01283 225729.

Trinity Reading Group at Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough, the group is designed to encourage adult readers to explore books and to share their thoughts with others in a relaxed atmosphere. Wellingborough Writers meets on the second and fourth Tuesday afternoons of each calendar month, from 2.00-4.30 pm at The Royal British Legion Club, High Street, Wellingborough.
