Francis
Boyle terms the Enigmatron
site an "experience," one of the requirements of which
is "a willingness to experiment." Enigmatron is a visually
and verbally enticing experience, an enriching experiment well
worth embarking upon. Flavoured
with an oriental aesthetic, the site has a sense of mystery and
discovery reminiscent of the I Ching. Lexically spare and elegant,
it is suggestive of the particular linguistic sensibility of haiku.

Water
always Writes in Plural is a hyperfiction written by trAce
member Linda Carroli in collaboration with Josephine Wilson. This
piece is not composed of the myriad graphic elements one usually
sees in hypertexts produced presently, but is, nonetheless, a
rich cross-disciplinary work in terms of its variegation of subject
matter. Water always Writes in Plural is composed of a
number of texts that initially branch off from four central words/phrases.
Each text is strong enough to work independently in a linear fashion,
yet they are hypertextually interwoven in such a way as to create
new fields of theme, voice, narrative and observation -- in the
end creating a whole which far surpasses the sum of its parts.
This piece received an honourable mention in the first trAce/Alt-X
Hypertext Competition.

Reiner
Strasser's site, Re:
The Virtual Affair, is a
densely multifaceted site encompassing a wide range of work, both
individual and collaborative, created by a prolific web artist
and e-poet. Reiner's work is frequently categorized as 'visual
poetry,' and if one is to hinge upon the element of the 'marvelous'
often inferred by this term, their expectations will likely be
fulfilled by what has been termed the 'magic' of Reiner's distinctive
touch.

Chart
of Synchronicities
is Jeannette Lambert's "attempt to visually represent a series
of synchronicities and dreams," with the participation of
friends and family. This chart is haunted by the visual language
of the baroque painters Artemisia and Caravaggio, who "coloured
dreamtime" for Jeannette. This dream journal makes for some
very interesting reading -- with a beautiful touch of mystery
and nostalgia.

Jason
Nelson's creative work traverses the boundaries of hypertext/hypermedia
and traditional print. He excels at both -- the work speaks for
itself.

Lori
Anderson's untitled website is the home of some exceptional
poetry and graphics. Unlike much graphically augmented poetry
one sees on the web, Lori's graphics are not placed as arbitrary
'pretty pictures', but instead immensely enrich subjects ranging
from the farm to the soul.

The
unique vision and treatment of language on Miekel And and Maria
Damon's Literature
Nation may astonish some, and tantalize others. Often playful
and Dadaesque, this website is especially recommended to those
with a somewhat quirky and modern linguistic appetite. Whatever
the effect on the individual, a visit to Miekel's website is a
journey into language one does not easily forget - his neologisms
have been known to find their way into people's dreams ...

Joel
Weishaus is a writer whose work takes on many forms, from
very imaginative, web-specific writing to more traditional interviews
and critiques. Whatever the form, his writing is breathtaking.
Particularly of note is his ongoing work Inside the Skullhouse.
