When e was a baby e's father whispered 'rhymes' into e's baby ear, to keep e quiet in public places. Adolescent, e answered penpal ads in music papers, exchanging fervid letters in coloured felt-tip with people e would never meet. At Oxford e surfed English Lit. from Beowulf to The Waves. e's first job included hiring out word processors -- this was in 1979 -- and the word Information. e became a librarian, cat-owner and cyclist, and e was a poet.
