Alan C. Baird

9TimeZones.com
FXlibris. c 1999. £14, $18 trade paper. (ISBN: 0738806137)
9TimeZones.com - an eMail screenplay collaboration between Hungary and L.A. (includes first draft script 'The Fall In Budapest')
"In America we take so many things for granted, and the most consequential things can seem so mundane. We are isolated from the grueling realities of other parts of the world, where people mean things when they say them, because their very survival might be at stake. Reading the correspondence of Alan C. Baird and Anikó J. Bartos, and watching the development of their co-written screenplay across the Internet, with accompanying commentary on each of the participants' lives, loves and longings, one can't help but feel a little better about the world, and our possibilities."

Richard D. Hawkins

Telephone Abuse
Minerva Press. c2000. £13.99 trade paper. (ISBN: 0754113795)
Written in the heat of spring and summer 1999 this was the product of volatility and an uncertain outcome reflected back onto the page with my first full length fiction. No storyline and outcome was in mind when portraying a male character who finds 'doors closed' in his familiar area but with the help of a female partner he establishes himself in Spain (again just an improvisation at the time) and when the pressure increases further he rises to finance a hotel that is frequented by a variety of pretty cool characters.

Beyond the Weather Friends
Janus Publishing. c2001. £7.95 trade paper. (ISBN: 1857565258)
Written through the Millenium (1999 to 2000) this was something that remained understated in the background during another episode of relative uncertainty during which my father died and I created what at the time of writing is still the best Home Made music. The central character is a Danish policeman (improvisation with no racism intended) who is in the unlikely setting of a British northern town. Jesper is given the task of 'beating' a couple of Brits and for this purpose he teams up with a divorcee from the Isle of Mann. Realism cannot be upheld and the story descends into a metaphor concerning 'quality of creation' both with writing and from my own point of view perhaps music also.

Biography: Born in Kings Lynn and educated at King Edward VII Grammar School and the University of Birmingham, I am a published poet, author and watercolour painter.
